By ordering\nthe defendant to be confined to a psychiatric hospital in lieu of imprisonment,\nthe Regional Court of N\u00fcrnberg-F\u00fcrth brought lasting shame upon the judiciary\nin Germany, not only in Bavaria. But this concerns not only the criminal\njustice system, but also forensic psychiatry with its omnipotent view of the\nworld, always ready to register every stirring of otherness as an &#8220;abnormality&#8221;\nand to whisper clinical pictures into the ears of heavily prejudiced judges.\n\u00bbPsychiatry \u2013 the dark place of the law \u00ab \u2013 this is the very apt heading over a\ncommentary by Heribert Prantl. To illuminate this dark place a little is what\nthis book aspires to achieve. It will be shown that the quick stigmatization of\npeople achieved by means of forensic psychiatry also contaminates the minds and\nactions of jurists.
